95 points Burghound
This is one of those wines that is frustratingly variable and while none of the bottles that I have had has been poor, my scores have ranged from 90 to 95 points, which is an enormous range and particularly so for such a (relatively speaking) young wine. At its best the overtly ripe and still relatively primary nose of spice and earth-inflected black currant offers excellent complexity. There is excellent richness and power to the big-bodied and concentrated flavors that coat the mouth with dry extract on the hugely long finish where about the only nit is a hint of warmth. At worst the finish is drying, woody and noticeably warm. In all cases though its seems clear that this is still very much on the way up and a wine that will require most of the next decade before it arrives at its peak. (4/2017)

Only two barrels of this wonderful wine were produced. Les Cras is on the Vosne side of the commune and, as a result, produces a very silky style of Nuits-St-Georges. That said, it is noticeably more masculine than the other wines tasted in the Lamarche line-up. Dark and brooding in the glass, there is a purity and precision about this wine. Violets and blueberry fruit are wrapped up in the silkiest of tannins, with a precise mineral-driven finish. Definitely a keeper.

A menthol top note can be found on the relatively high-toned red currant aromas that are liberally laced with notes of Asian tea, orange peel, hoisin and sandalwood. There is notably more volume and mid-palate concentration to the big-bodied flavors that manage to be at once elegant yet powerful, all wrapped in a very firm, mildly austere and hugely long finale. Excellent quality here but note that patience will be required before this robust effort reaches its apogee.

Burghound
Heavy new oak aromas and generous, forward fruit and generous, rich, open, supple black fruit flavors that manage to deliver good detail if not a lot of nuance. This is not for those who dislike lots of new oak. (1/2002)

This long and narrow climate, perfectly located in Burgundy, is surrounded by the 3 best climates of Burgundy: Romanée Conti, La Tâche and Romanée Saint Vivant.
Owned by Domaine Lamarche, the wines combine elegance and finesse. Low yields, perfect ripeness of the grapes as well as severe sorting are at the origin of the quality of these wines.
The extreme finesse, refinement and nobility of Vosne’s best soils are found in the Grande Rue. A very beautiful dark color developing flavors of spices, flowers and morello cherry distinguishes this vintage among the other Vosne-Romanée.
