2The Clos du Chêne Vert is one of the mythical places of Chinon, located in the city itself, at the Haute Olive, on the right bank of the Vienne river.
The very steep slope of this clos of two small hectares, its south-west orientation and its clay and silico-calcareous soil explain why it is one of the oldest crus of the whole appellation.
The place owes its name to the monumental holm oak overhanging it, growing back from a tree more than eight hundred years old planted by the monks of the Abbey of Bourgueil in the 12th century.
The numerous maturity controls carried out for all the vintages in order to determine the optimum date for the harvest generally result in harvesting this clos at the very beginning. Its exceptional exposure and its hillside terroir give us the first musts of each vintage.
The duration of maceration and vatting are similar to those of the Varennes, with the specificity, from the 2008 vintage onwards, of being carried out in wooden vats.
Pumping over and punching down (pressing the cap of the marc into its juice) help to extract the matter and the colour. Alcoholic fermentation is sometimes followed by malolactic fermentation on the pomace, bringing roundness and extra fatness. Prolonged ageing in barrels of 1 to 3 wines (12 to 15 months) completes the refinement of this wine with a rare personality.
A very long ageing cuvée that must wait several years in the cellar for it to deliver its originality.

The nose : The nose is fresh chiseled. It first offers a varietal register: fern, rhubarb, orange, beautifully integrated in a beautiful minerality. After stirring, floral notes gradually gain momentum: broom, elderflower and lily of the valley. The spicy frame keeps a very nice freshness.
Palate : The mouth is massive and chiseled. One quickly distinguishes aromas of exotic fruits, around which interweave touches of coconut, toasted almonds or lily of the valley. The acid balance increases in power and offers a lemony and saline finish very typical of Silex soils.

Brilliant wine with a beautiful golden yellow robe. Expressive and elegant nose with floral and citrus aromas. Full and racy attack, with notes of candied lemon. The acidity is fine and straight. Complex wine with great flavor. The finish is very saline with lovely bitter notes.

Beautiful purplish red color, brilliant. Expressive nose with notes of red fruits, leather and spices.
Harmonious and structured wine, the attack is silky, the tannins are coated, the acidity is fine and long. Very typical Pinot Noir wine with good persistence on the finish.

(13.2% alcohol; 18 hectoliters per hectare produced; from vines harvested on September 23): Bright, moderately saturated medium red. Explosive, fruit-dominated aromas of dark berries, cherry, spices, mint, menthol, flowers and minerals. Conveys compelling sappy energy in a silky, medium-bodied package, with its black fruit and herb flavors complicated by a touch of saline minerality. Boasts glorious density of fruit–and near-perfect balance in spite of the very low yield. The very long, rising, perfumed finish offers a serious tannic spine for aging but no rough edges. This penetrating, urgent, classic Clos Vougeot, a standout for the vintage, boasts real pinosity. François Labet told me that, beginning with his 2015s, he did not use enzymes and did not add any sulfur until the middle of the élevage, well after the malolactic fermentations finished. He bottled this 2016 with just 20 parts per million free sulfur and 35 total.

Like several wines in the range there is a subtle whiff of the exotic in the form of mandarin orange to the acacia blossom, green fruit and mineral reduction-suffused aromas. The dense, serious and powerful broad-shouldered flavors flash plenty of minerality on the chiseled, even crystalline finish that delivers huge length. This tautly muscular effort is seriously good though patience will of course be necessary. 96/2028+ .
