Batard-Montrachet Grand Cru comes from two parcels of vines, the earliest planted in the 1930s. It is more expressive at this early stage than its peers, offering peach skin and nectarine fruit, fine mineralite and tension. The palate is powerful like the Criots-Batard-Montrachet, packed with pithy fruit and touches of granite on the finish. Very fine – but just five barrels this year. The reds were all in barrel when we met.

95 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Outer quote mark Aromas of clear honey, blanched almonds and pear mingle with hints of citrus blossom and orange oil, introducing the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru, a full-bodied, elegantly textural wine that’s supple and enveloping, with lovely depth and dimension at the core, underpinned by lively acids. Long and perfumed, this is an elegant, expressive Montrachet from Fontaine-Gagnard. (WK) Inner quote mark (2/2020)

Powerful and dense nose, expressive, with intense ripe floral notes, almost spicy. In the mouth it is fat and tense, with beautiful concentration. A wine you can drink now but will continue to gain complexity over time. Beautiful, well-balanced saline finish.

Lemon, lime, apple, kiwi, cream, vanilla – a full nose picture – can hardly be described in detail. On the palate, too, you will be carried away by the complexity and minerality of this picture book Chablis – deep, rich and elegant!

The attack is frank, clean on mineral and citrus notes.
The palate is balanced on the same aromatic palette as the nose. Good lingering finish.

Along with the Blanchots, this is the most floral-suffused wine in the range with its elegant and pure aromas of white peach and discreet Chablis elements that include tidal pool and quinine. The succulent but impressively intense middle weight flavors are less generous but notably finer while exhibiting outstanding length on the bone-dry finale. This classy and tightly wound effort is also potentially excellent and well-worth considering.
